The downtown Phoenix Central Avenue arts corridor now sparkles with another jewel: The 5.2 million dollar Arizona Opera Center. The 28,000 square foot center, at the northwest corner of Central and McDowell, includes a black box theatre, a rehearsal space, an orchestra loft, a costume and makeup shop, and administrative and educational facilities.
This week the public has an opportunity to explore AZ Opera’s new space, and a new opera, as the Center presented a free workshop performance of Craig Bohmler’s opera, Riders of the Purple Sage, based on the 1912 Zane Grey novel. K-Bach’s Sterling Beeaff chatted with composer Craig Bohmler about his work in progress.
