KBACH's Heart of the Arts

The MusicaNova Orchestra will be in concert Friday, October 17 at 7:30pm at the Musical Instrument Museum. The centerpiece of their program is Dead White Man Music by Evan Williams, a meditation on Williams' place in classical music as a young black composer. KBACH's Greg Kostraba recently talked with the orchestra's Music Director Warren Cohen about the program, which also includes works by Valerie Coleman, Tania Leon and Paul Hindemith.

Pianist Caio Pagano (pictured left) will perform music by Beethoven and Chopin at the Recital Hall of the Steinway Piano Gallery in Scottsdale, October 11 at 3pm. KBACH's Greg Kostraba chatted with Pagano about his illustrious concert and teaching career, and the sonatas he'll be playing on the opening concert of the fledgling "Beethoven in the Desert" series. The Phoenix Symphony opens its 2025-2026 season October 3-5 at Symphony Hall with Dvorak's "New World" Symphony and guest pianist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto #5. KBACH's Greg Kostraba talked with Sánchez-Werner about his piano studies, what a typical day for him is like, and why he's so excited to perform the “Emperor” Concerto. John Doney is the founder, President & CEO of the Arizona Pops Orchestra, which makes its debut Saturday, September 27 at Tempe Center for the Arts. Doney recently chatted with KBACH's Greg Kostraba about his experiences in orchestral management, the inspiration for the new orchestra, and the ensemble's debut concert featuring the father-daughter vocal duo of Mat & Savanna Shaw.

Pianist Stephen Cook (pictured, left) is the founder and Artistic Director of the Oracle Piano Society in Oracle, Arizona, which presents a concert series with award-winning musicians, and provides local low-income rural students with tuition-free music instruction throughout the year. Cook and KBACH's Greg Kostraba (pictured, right) recently talked about the group's music conservatory, fall concert lineup, and annual chamber music festival, for which registration is now open.

ASU professors flutist Elizabeth Buck and guitarist Martha Masters will be in recital on the Downtown Chamber Series Saturday & Sunday, August 23rd & 24th, at Bulfinch Architects in Phoenix. Buck recently talked with KBACH's Greg Kostraba about the program, which includes music by Joaquin Rodrigo, Carlos Antonio Jobim, Astor Piazzolla and more, amidst an exhibit by wood artist John Ebinger.

ASU Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano Miki Aoki will present a solo piano recital on Saturday, July 12th at the Recital Hall in the Steinway Piano Gallery in Scottsdale. She recently chatted with KBACH's Greg Kostraba about the program, which includes music by Chopin, Debussy, Liszt and Cecile Chaminade. June 21st is the worldwide Make Music Day, and Rosie’s House has planned free performances and other activities at 17 locations throughout the Valley, including the MIM, the Heard Museum, and Arizona Opera. Rosie’s House CEO Becky Bell Ballard, and Aline Boyd, who teaches piano there, recently talked with KBACH's Greg Kostraba about Rosie's House and Make Music Phoenix.

The Arizona Piano Institute presents its 10th Summer Festival June 1st through the 7th at Phoenix College. Before the festival begins, the faculty of the A-P-I will present a recital at the Ravenscroft in Scottsdale, Sunday, June 1st at 2pm. KBACH's Greg Kostraba recently talked with API faculty member Elisabeth Pridonoff about the activities taking place during the festival as well as the opening concert, which will include music by Beethoven, Bach, Percy Grainger, and more.

The MusicaNova Orchestra presents its "Laughing with Prokofiev, Stravinsky & Haydn" concert May 18th at the Musical Instrument Museum.
